Sean and Sarah, along with their twin boys and the family dog, made the big move from the city to La Grange Park. Going from a condo to a single family home meant new rooms to furnish, and they didn’t want them to sit empty for long. Having shopped at Smithe before, they called upon Senior Smithe Designer, Eliza Diederich, who's first order of business was to meet them at their house inspection so she could start planning for the space.
With twins, a dog, and their annual 30-person Thanksgiving party, durability was at the top of the must-list. "With two young boys that like to rough house, we want furniture that lasts. We don’t want to replace every 3 years," said Sarah. "What young families need to know is that if you invest in quality pieces, you end up saving money in the long run."
The couple landed on a leather Worry Free sectional that can fit a crowd, and a console that doubles as storage for the boys’ toys and games. One of the couple’s sons was particularly interested in the design process, and helped by selecting the round accent table in the room, “he kissed it when the Smithe delivery men brought it in the house!” recalled Sarah.
Sarah and Sean wanted their living room to be mid-century with touches of bohemian color. As one enters the home, the first thing one sees is the back of the timeless Thayer Coggin sofa, with its eye-catching brushed bronze exterior framing. The original blueprints of the home were framed and serve as artwork.
Throughout the home, Sarah and Sean looked to Eliza to help select window treatments that wouldn’t obstruct the natural light. Their home that feels welcoming, homey and ready for their first Thanksgiving gathering.
