Jennifer and Kirk met Senior Smithe Designer Irene Lamiot about 6 years ago when they moved into their home in the historic district of La Grange. They were picking up a few odds and ends, but they weren’t ready for furniture, as extensive home renovations were in their future plans.
Fast forward 6 years and with the renovations near complete, they were ready to bring Irene back in to complete the furniture design for the first floor. Gone was the wall between the kitchen and what was the dining room, leaving the kitchen now open to the family room. Jennifer and Kirk looked to Irene to help nail down a palette for the space that would blend nicely with the cabinetry and offset the original dark wood moldings found throughout the home. They were also set on finding a low profile sectional that wouldn’t block the home’s original windows. Irene delivered on both fronts, bringing in fresh blues with neutral creams and browns, and one of our top selling sectionals that has a low back, the Louise.
The casual dining space is directly off the kitchen, so Irene needed to consider how all 3 areas would flow together. She designed custom cushions that fit like a glove into the built-in L-shaped banquette in shades that complimented the blue hues found in the living room. Next, Irene selected a square-shaped Hickory White dining table, giving the family plenty of space for meals and homework.
The former living room became the formal dining room, and also includes a quaint sitting area situated nicely in front of a cozy fireplace. Jennifer wanted to bring glitz and glam into the space, which was achieved through lighting (client’s own), artwork, and stately dark finishes on the dining table, chairs and console.
The home feels open, clean and fresh. Exactly what Jennifer and Kirk envisioned when they first moved in.
