Hello my name is Brooke, Designer / Certified SmitheBusiness Designer. I love working in my client’s home and in large businesses. I started in design when I was a small girl, from rearranging my parent’s furniture and my bed room, to always wanting new paint colors and loving art. I started designing in the 90’s, working in homes, as well as a children’s wing of a large church which included placing murals on the walls. I love working out of the Smithe showroom. I have over 250 of the finest furniture makers in the world at my disposal. Click here to see what inspires me.

I’m Genny F., Associate Manager, Senior Designer, and Designer of the Year for the Merrillville showroom. My eye for design and color started a number of years ago when I owned my own Art Gallery. Working for the Smithe family these past 15 years has given me the opportunity to work with many amazing clients in both residential and commercial spaces. Projects from great rooms to business offices and even a Yacht are among the incredible spaces that I have had the pleasure of designing. My design philosophy is to help you select the right pieces for you, suited to your style, budget, time frame and family. Let’s set up your consultation!
A long time ago, when art galleries in Chicago were blooming, I interviewed artists: “What is art for you?” The answers varied from “quick emotion” to “digging the soil”. To me an art is a fixed picture in a sea of variations. I am analyzing surrounding until I find a picture perfect. I feel rested, peaceful, and fulfilled. Nature is perfect and it is always a fresh source of inspiration.
I also strongly believe that all of us have a taste, so I partner with you to make your design balanced. Color, size, visual weight, patterns, textures, light, and all the objects should play together to achieve a wanting mood. People live happier in balance, don’t you agree?
Art is the foundation of any design. It is an expression of emotion and personality. I fell in love with Art and Design at an early age. In my native country Guyana, Nature and the beauty of it was my framework for my imagination. Once I came to the states I realized that design was in me all along. Being one of eight siblings, you learn early that ‘home is where your Peace resides’. My designs are your Peace through my eyes…let’s set up your design consultation today!
I grew up an architect, then artist, spent some time in sales, and have found everything I liked about each of them in interior design. Design makes a difference. Every project brings a different challenge, client, space, and tastes.
Your home is your sanctuary. And each room in it can have a very purposeful effect.
How ever you want your home to feel, design can achieve it. Relaxing or energizing…formal or casual…clean or ornate; design determines what the emphasis in your room is. Just like the composition of a painting leads the viewer’s eye to what the artist wants seen, color and shaping can be used in a room to determine whether guests remember your TV, your fireplace, or your favorite piece of furniture.
Interior Design is how I connect with the world – each day comes alive and makes sense to me through art, furniture and spaces. I’m in love with surprise and subtlety. The best thing I have ever heard…"Dina, you have changed the way we live!"
I am an Honors Graduate from Harrington Institute of Interior Design in Chicago, Illinois and am a Senior Interior Designer here at Smithe. Can’t wait to meet you!!
“Home is where the heart is.” This is where I start my design approach.
Growing up I spent many a day hanging with my Mom at various furniture stores choosing the perfect pieces for our family and our lives. It was always enjoyable and has given me many great memories. When choosing a style or a new piece of furniture for your home, it should reflect your lifestyle and personality. At the end of a long day, you should walk in your home and feel a sense of peace and comfort. Call me today and let’s create your new space!
Its about Mood…It’s About Humanity…Communication, Service, and Credibility. I grew up as a carpenter in Indiana and later as a theatrical set and hospitality designer in New York City. Along the way I learned to value craftsmanship, story, and the people it served.
Great Design has the power to lift the human spirit. It also has the responsibility to do so. Artists push boundaries and elevate our understanding of self and our journey. It is my passion to serve my clients with my talents, experience, and education. Lets tell your story…define your space…We will create dynamic and personal environments together…we will challenge and accommodate our lifestyle and ask more of us in our daily lives. Happiness is a choice…Design is Happiness.
My career with Smithe began 14 years ago. I tell folks all the time that I love my job! After 14 years I still love it. I am the General Manager at the Merrillville Store and also am a Senior Designer and Certified SmitheBusiness Contract Designer.
My philosophy about design is that your home is your sanctuary; a safe place…when you walk through the doors the room should greet you with a warm and peaceful feeling. That is what I want to create for my clients.
As a General Manager and Senior Designer for over 10 years, I have been able to use my passion for design to transform my client’s homes to reflect their likes and lifestyles. My design philosophy is to love where you live. I enjoy creating spaces that reflect your personality and still fit your budget. I’d love to work with you on your next design project. Call or email me today!
Life is too short to live with bad design! …Or a style that is someone else’s that doesn’t quite work for you or your space. Your home should be a reflection of you, not a mere carbon copy of the images you see in a magazine. I will work with you to take that spark of inspiration, fuse it with your personality and - voila! – there you have it, a space that is all you! My goal is to search for the pieces you have dreamed about, while working with your budget and time frames. Let’s get started!
Design is a privilege as well as a responsibility. I have met some incredible people over my years in the design profession. Every project, small or large, gives me the opportunity to help make some one else’s life a little better. It gives me great satisfaction to know that I am one of the reason’s so many people want to come home after a hard day at work! As I tell people that ask ‘what is it like to be a designer at Walter E Smithe’? I would answer ‘it’s like playing in some one else’s sandbox, and not having to pay for the sand!’ You can probably tell, I like to have fun, as well as create beautiful spaces.
