Design has been a passion of mine since I started drawing houses and furniture plans at age 10. It’s an exciting challenge to integrate forms and function to create beautiful interiors that reflect my client’s tastes, lifestyle and needs. The secret to every successful project is that it is fun for my clients (and doesn’t seem like work for me). No project is too large or too small, whether you are reupholstering a family heirloom, moving to a new apartment, buying your first condo in the city or furnishing a large suburban home. Call me to schedule an appointment for your next project!
I think my design philosophy can best be summed up by saying I create the kind of rooms my clients would create, if they only had the time, ability or inclination. I have the skills, creativity, talent, and training: in short, the experience you need. I use that experience to fulfill your dreams. One of my primary goals is to create the most beautiful rooms I can – but homes must be functional, too. Your spaces must be useful to you, as well as attractive and enduring. I can transform your living space & directly impact the quality of your life. I’ve seen the happiness on my clients’ faces as they enter their new spaces, finally able to live the life they want. I’m sure I can do the same for you.
As a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, my design career was sparked while
working on movie sets as a set designer. Challenged to create entire
room environments from scratch, I learned design from the perspective
of lighting, color, the use of scale and how they all come together to create
a complete impression.
Style isn’t just about what we wear, it’s about how we live. I believe that design is more then just making rooms look good. It’s about making our lives more functional. When I’m designing a space, I look for simple ways to make that person’s life a little easier. My background consists of a B.S. degree in Interior Design from an accredited University, working on theatre sets, being in the commercial design industry, and now happy to be a Designer at Smithe. Design is definitely a journey, and you never know where it might take you.
I have a fashion background, and transitioned into Interior Design in 1999. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working for and learning from some of the best designers in the industry. Your home should be your sanctuary, and I would love to help create a beautiful environment for you! Please click on the link to see some of the products I love.
Most recently, before coming to Chicago (for the weather), I had been a licensed Interior Designer in Los Angeles. I believe: "Design is an opportunity to express a client’s individuality through furnishings, accessories and color, building a palette throughout the home that evolves from room to room".
Working for a celebrity Interior Designer provided me with an excellent basis from which to grow my talents in interior design. My comprehensive knowledge of everything from architecture and lighting, to art history and creative design, has been honed through years of solving actual design problems with clients. "I love it when clients feel free to trust me, and know that the end result will be a reflection of their taste and needs."
Because Smithe is a mini Merchandise Mart, I have everything at my fingertips to create rooms that WOW and make a lasting impression.
I have had a passion for design since I was a child. I was the only 8 year old asking for furniture and lamps for my birthday instead of toys. Now, equipped with a degree in interior design from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, I have the skills and knowledge to design spaces that are beautiful, functional and portray the personalities of my clients. I love using my skills to help clients create a space that suits their lifestyle and budget. Whether you are looking for one perfect piece or working on an entire project, I am here to help you accomplish your design goals.
Every project, no matter the size, is always exciting and rewarding, and I appreciate client input and take pride in the individualism of each project.
For over 65 years as a family business,
our strong relationships in both textiles and home furnishings insure that clients have the most choices to some of the finest vendors in the field of interior décor. Most importantly we have the ability to work within all budgets to provide the best results.
To guide you through the process of achieving the look you imagine, I specialize in
and staying within your budget.

A well-designed room should be inviting, interesting and effortless. By effortless, I mean that everything in a room, from furniture to lighting to accessories to window treatments, should work together to provide a comfortable, functional, coherent space. As a degreed interior designer and Smithe employee for 10 years, I love helping people work toward this aesthetic! By really listening to my clients’ needs, I am able to achieve creative, functional design solutions within their budget!
My versatility as a designer has brought me many exciting opportunities with Smithe over the years: collaborating with Nate Berkus (among others) to design an Oprah Dream Home and working personally for one of the Smithe brothers on his own home are just two examples. Trustworthy, honest and professional, I always go the extra mile for my clients and make them feel right at home!
Multi-Store General Manager, Senior Designer since 1999.
As a Senior Designer at Walter E. Smithe I am known for my sophisticated, timeless design aesthetic as well as a passion for bringing unique solutions to each project.
Good design has a clear vision and should tell a story; it should be logical but also aesthetically pleasing. In exploring the process of design I hope to provide a deeper understanding of what makes a room or a house not just pretty or livable but extraordinary! In every project I undertake I consider the basic elements of design to create a comfortable and pleasing interior for my clients. At the end of the day the focus of interior design is always people and the way that they live.
Many people tend to “play it safe” when it comes to home design, too hesitant to take risks and go one step further than simply matching colors or sticking to neutrals. My role as a creative thinker and an interior designer is to showcase the individuality of every home and teach my clients not to fear giving up the ordinary for the extraordinary. What I find most fulfilling is taking an average space and developing it to its fullest potential in both function and style.
For me it is all about pieces that breathe personality. Let’s get away from the generic and design a space with some energy! I am here to listen to both your needs and your dreams and blend them into a home that combines high functionality for daily living with exquisite style and comfort. You are an individual; shouldn’t your home be too?
