I have worked in decorating for 15 years. Previously I worked with paint, wallpaper and window fashions, but for the last 7 years I have been a designer for Walter E Smithe Furniture. I have had the priviledge of working with many wonderful people. Whether we are starting from scratch, refreshing, or just adding a few pieces - I am here to help guide you. Utilizing my degree in business finance, I will be mindful of your budget and together we will interpret your ideas and create rooms that feel like they are welcoming everyone home.
My name is Bob Wiles and I have been a designer with Smithe for 15 years, 12 of those years as a General Manager. Before that I was in the lighting industry for 18 years. Needless to say design and helping clients create a beautiful living space has been a passion of mine. My design philosophy is simple; helping to see what my clients want and helping them create it in their own home. I accomplish this by listening to their needs and wants; whether it is to create a formal living space, one for an active family household or a couple who is downsizing. I would love to help you with your next design project, whether it be large or small.
Hi, I'm Dianna, and designing is my middle name! For over 20 years I've enjoyed helping clients put together the home of their dreams. A good design is both a beautiful and comfortable home that reflects the personality of the owners. Helping you achieve your dreams is where I come in. With your ideas and my expertise in space planning, furniture selection, color and scale, that home is only a design away. Sweet dreams!
It’s art if can’t be explained.
It’s fashion if no one asks for an explanation.
It’s design if it doesn’t need explanation.
Our opportunity as designers is to learn how to handle the complexity rather than shy away from it, and to realize that the big art of design is to make complicated things simple.
My one suggestion after 10+ years with Walter E. Smithe Furniture: let’s keep it simple together.
Home. Office. Escape to the lake house.
It’s your decision to make. It’s my job to help you get there.
Design is my "second act" and I love it! My professional life after college was in a teaching career that I found rewarding and challenging. When I felt I accomplished many of my goals....I took a look around to see what other career would give me an opportunity to tap into my artistic talents. 3 years later I received a degree in Interior Design and soon after my Illinois State Certificate. I owned my own design business for a few years and learned a lot about billing, taxes, and everything my right brain found pedestrian. I don’t design your space—WE design it together.
I’m here to listen to your thoughts on the spaces of your home: how you use it, who you share it with and what you dream it will look like. I’ll show you options you hadn’t considered and bring you new ideas. We’ll coordinate your new space with your existing décor. Together, we take those thoughts and make it your reality. I want you to love your new space.
Welcome to Smithe Furniture! I have had the great honor of designing clients personal, vacation and professional spaces for 26 years! Over that time I have met and developed a wonderful client and referral base that I am very proud of. I enjoy the challenge of each new space, large or small. My clients appreciate my ideas and the confidence I bring with my experience to each and every project. I have the ability to conceptualize a space on first look and execute it in a way that surpasses clients expectations all while educating them on the design concept. Whether it is a whole house from blue prints or a few accessories my goal is to always bring the client the look they want with a little extra “Wow, I never would have thought of that” and always in a professional and timely manner. I look forward to helping you achieve your design goals! References available upon request.
Having been with Walter E. Smithe since 2003, my experience, imagination, and awareness of my client’s needs helps with each new project I take on. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture and that additional knowledge and training has been put to use every day here at Smithe. I would love to sit down with you, listen to your needs and preferences, and then translate that into a beautiful setting that fits your life. I love what I do; and not just for the art of it. I thrive on the lasting effects each room I design will have on my clients for years to come.
I should have known at the age of 15 when we were house hunting and I went right home and quickly sketched out a floor plan of the new house that I was destined to work at Smithe! Today, I am a thrilled to be a Senior Designer in the Walter E. Smithe Arlington Heights showroom as well as the Director of SmitheBusiness, our contract furniture branch. I’d love to hear about the next project for your home or business!
Hi, I am Marge Valletta and I have been a part of Walter E Smithe since 2005. During that time I have been fortunate to work with both residential and commercial clients. My work has included individual rooms, model homes, country clubs and commercial office spaces. As designers, I believe it is our job to listen to our clients and work towards creating a space that fits their needs and budget. Whether it is a family room waiting for special memories or an office space that makes your clients feel right at home, at Smithe we can do it all.
Design should be a reflection of your personality and lifestyle, and your home should reveal that! My passion is creating spaces that you are proud to show off, and never want to leave! I enjoy working with clients regardless of project size: from advice on paint colors, to adding those finishing touches, to furnishing entire homes. From my education at Harrington College of Design, I possess strong space planning and fabric selection skills to help make this process easy and enjoyable! I am committed to helping you create a space that is functional, reflects your style, and fits your budget!
Design is my passion. Being able to satisfy my clients by creating their dream interiors is what makes every experience even more worthwhile. Graduating from the Art Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design, I have the educational foundation to ensure my clients and I are creating the most functional and aesthetically pleasing environment for each individual space. Color schematics, space planning and budgeting are three areas I excel in. Together, with my passion and your vision we can design the perfect reflection of your personality.
Welcome to Walter E. Smithe! I am a graduate from Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. I began my career designing custom window treatments and furniture. But my passion for interior design began as a kid! After 18 years in the design industry, I’m so excited to now be a designer with Walter E. Smithe at the Arlington Heights showroom. It’s a designer’s playground!
As a designer for Smithe for 10 years, I have been able to creatively design and furnish many different rooms, homes and commercial projects. The key to my design success has been my ability to listen to the needs of my clients and match their desires to the furniture and accessories that are available through Smithe. Every client is special and deserves the best design available. I take great pride in providing the best service and follow up. I have been lucky to work with so many wonderful people and always enjoy when past clients return.
Hello, I'm Cathy, a Senior Designer with our Arlington Heights showroom. Beautiful rooms are of my utmost consideration, and are a result of my clients’ personalities and lifestyles. Please contact me if you would like to pursue an initial meeting to see if I may be of any assistance with your design desires and requirements.
Hi. I’m Meg Kalaway and I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of the Smithe furniture family since 2002. Over the years I’ve worked in many different Walter E Smithe stores, both as a designer and as a manager. Today I’m happy to be back as a Senior Designer in Arlington Heights, the store I’ll always call home.
My philosophy is really quite simple: Good design is collaboration between a designer and the client. So my first priority is to listen to what you need. How you want the room to function – for both family and friends. After all, if you’re not comfortable in your home, no one else will be either.
I love what I do. And I’d love to part of your team. Then together we can see everything come together in the space you call home.
I’m Margaret, a Senior Designer at Smithe. I love what I do! It never feels like a job because I have so much fun doing it. I want my clients to feel confident in my design and their choices that we make for a room, or just a few pieces. When their furniture arrives and they call me with how happy they are, it makes me happy too, as I accomplished my goal. So, let’s set up a consultation to give you a room that you and your family will love to come home to.
As a Senior Designer with Smithe for 12 years, I have been able to combine their wealth of resources along with my many years of experience in marketing and design, to help the client create a warm and welcoming environment designed for their unique home, office or commercial space. My services include, but are not limited to space planning; furniture and accessory selection, finish, and color consultation (we love color!); custom and semi-custom upholstery and case goods. Together we will create and execute one beautiful piece of furniture or an entire home within your family's budget. I am very sensitive to this issue. Today, the budget is one of the first aspects of a design project that needs to be considered.
My goal with each new project is to please the client by creating a beautiful living environment mirroring the client's lifestyle.
I have been designing rooms in the Chicagoland area with Walter E. Smithe Furniture + Design since 2006! As a Senior Designer with my degree in this field, I look forward to the challenge, big or small, to create a look that defines you. With over 250 companies to choose from I can help you to select the pieces and create the space that you’ve been looking for!
My goal is to bring the perfect blend of beauty and function to every space at any budget. Keeping your individual needs, lifestyle and preferences in mind, I’ll help you create a space in which you’ll love to live.
